The owners of Johnston Court shopping centre told us about their ambitious plans to redevelop this Sligo town centre retail hub. The aim was to create a place that supported local business and culture while giving tenants and visitors a pleasant space to enjoy doing business, shopping and just hanging out. A large part of the plan involved a spectacular and extensive planting scheme as well as a focus on sustainable materials and finishes.

THE NAME

The name takes refers to the ‘greening’ of the space - bringing the leafy beauty of Sligo indoors to create a calm space where people will want to linger, to enjoy the atmosphere.

 
 

 
 

THE VISUAL IDENTITY

The wordmark is architectural and clean. It’s modern but surprising and unexpected due to the reversed contrast feature. It has a sense of lightness without seeming silly or goofy.

 

The colour palette is inspired by the light and shade of shadows cast by the leaves of the plants at The Canopy. Deep indigos and blues mingle and with brighter shades to give us a palette that works across print and digital with different moods and tones.
