We were tasked with creating a new brand from the ground up for a group of music industry veterans who had decided to take a leap of faith and break away to create a new agency.
THE NAME
Informed by our development process, Brand Therapy, it was apparent that the name needed to convey the dynamism of the new venture while working for non-anglophone audiences and clients. In sports a ‘playbook’ refers to a plan of action that leads to a win. We repurposed the expression in the service of live music. As a compound word it neatly illustrates what these guys do. They Book artists to Play shows.
THE VISUAL IDENTITY
The wordmark highlights the two elements in the name ‘Play’ and ‘Book’ by stacking them. We went further and created a stage/audience reflection by inverting Book so that the two words are watching each other.
This gave us a unique ‘PB’ monogram, which in rotation gives us a row of heads at the apron of the stage.
The look is clean and crisp for ease of us across formats from hard-copy contracts to social media feeds, but with a playfulness that expresses the inherent fun of live events.
